The Nanning Marathon starts 7:30 AM on Sunday, December 20 at Minzu Square, Nanning, Guangxi, with 36,000 runners split between a marathon (42.195km, 12,000 spots) and half marathon (21.0975km, 24,000 spots). Registration, originally set to open August 6, has been postponed; a new date will be announced separately.
The course follows the Yong River for its full length, shaded by subtropical greenery, passing landmarks like Minzu Avenue and Qingxiu Mountain Scenic Area. Known among runners for being exceptionally flat -- wide roads, minimal grade, very little elevation gain -- Nanning ranks among the top-tier PB courses in southern China.
A local favorite: aid stations offer not just water and sports drinks but tropical fruit -- bananas, pineapple, mango, durian -- an unusually generous, place-specific touch. The course also carries Nanning's "old friends" culture, with enthusiastic crowds and folk performances lining the route throughout this 36,000-runner event.
