Nav Challenge 4 - Mourne Mountains

The Mourne's Nav Challenge invites orienteering enthusiasts to navigate through the rugged and scenic landscapes of Ireland’s Batts Estate on October 18, 2026. Participants will rely solely on map and compass skills as they embark on either a challenging long course or a shorter but equally demanding route across open mountain terrain.
The long course spans approximately 14.5 kilometers with an ascent exceeding 800 meters, while the short course covers around 11 kilometers with over 600 meters of elevation gain. Both courses are designed to test your navigation prowess as you make strategic decisions on which control points to visit and in what order.
Registration takes place at Batts Estate where a public car park is conveniently located nearby for easy access. Maps will be available, but participants must bring their own markers or pencils to mark controls directly onto the map during the race. A master map with marked controls becomes accessible 8 minutes after start time should you need additional guidance.
All entrants are required to complete an entry form in advance as this event is sanctioned by Athletics NI and managed by BARF, ensuring a high standard of organization and safety measures for all participants. Kit checks will be conducted randomly on the day to ensure compliance with mandatory equipment requirements regardless of weather conditions.
This unique orienteering experience promises breathtaking views and challenging terrain that cater to seasoned navigators looking to push their limits in one of Ireland's most picturesque settings.
