About the Event

The Night at the Island 5K returns to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on June 3rd, 2026. This event is part of a larger celebration by the Pittsburgh Track Club that includes high school races and open distance runs for all runners.
Race morning in Pittsburgh brings cool night air, with temperatures around 18°C (64°F) as the city quiets down before sundown. The location at Shadyside Oval offers a scenic setting under the stars; the track is firm but slightly soft from recent rains, making it an invigorating start to your evening.
Since its inception in 2015, Night at the Island has grown significantly, attracting hundreds of participants each year who run not just for themselves but also support local scholarships and community initiatives. The event's continued success underscores its importance as a staple on Pittsburgh’s running calendar.
The race venue is Shadyside Oval, where runners will navigate firm yet slightly soft surfaces under the guidance of experienced officials. The 5K course layout includes several laps around the oval to ensure all participants have ample opportunity to showcase their skills and endurance. For those who wish for a challenge, there's also an open mile race.
Night at the Island features a diverse mix of high school races including boys' and girls' events over distances from 800m to the mile, as well as a mixed relay event. All races begin around 6 pm with an estimated finish time by midnight due to the late-night nature of the event. The UV index is very high at 8.0 on race day, so be prepared for intense sunlight.

Registration takes place online via https://raceroster.com/events/2026/125297/night-at-the-island with a fee of $30 per participant. The deadline to register is May 28th, 2026.
Bibs can be picked up at Shadyside Oval starting from 4:30 pm on the day of the event; bring identification and your payment receipt if you registered online or cash for those who have not completed their registration. The race starts at 5901 Ellsworth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA.
