The Night Howler 50, organized by The Running Birds, invites runners to embark on an unforgettable nocturnal adventure. This unique ultramarathon begins at sunset and challenges participants to navigate the darkness for over 16 hours. Set against the backdrop of Hoover Sports Park East in Hoover, Alabama, this race offers a blend of urban trails and serene wooded paths. The course is meticulously designed as a 2.5-mile loop with clear markings, ensuring runners can focus on their pace without worrying about navigation. The route includes a bridge crossing over the Cahaba River and descends through four flights of stairs into lush woodland trails before looping back to the starting point at Hoover Sports Park East. This race is suitable for both first-time ultramarathoners and seasoned veterans looking to set new personal records. Participants will have ample space at the start/finish area to set up tents or aid stations outside the course perimeter. Crews are welcome to provide support, including pacing throughout the night and aiding runners between laps. A full-service aid station located near the starting line offers a variety of food options, from pickles to fruits, ensuring runners stay fueled for their long journey. The race begins at 8:00 PM on June 26, 2027, with packet pickup available from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM. Runners will receive a custom t-shirt and bib number during this time.
