About the Event

As night falls over Lake Haigler Park in Fort Mill, South Carolina, The Night Owl 5K invites runners and nature enthusiasts to embark on an unforgettable journey under the stars. This year marks its third edition, having grown steadily to attract more than 300 participants each time.
The race begins at 7:30 PM with a festive atmosphere that sets the tone for the evening adventure. Participants will start from the Lake Haigler entrance, where they can enjoy amenities like food and gear shopping in the visitor center before setting off on their course. The park's well-maintained trail network offers scenic views and a perfect setting for an evening run or hike.
In addition to the 5K race, there are options for everyone: a 1-mile fun walk/run and a three-mile Hike Challenge. These distances ensure that both seasoned runners and casual walkers can find their pace among the park's natural beauty. The trail system is clearly marked with signs guiding participants through the winding paths.
The event not only offers a thrilling race experience but also supports local community initiatives, making it more than just an athletic competition. A holiday outfit prize adds to the fun, encouraging runners and spectators alike to get into festive spirits under the moonlight.
Safety measures are in place for all participants, including timed routes for those running the 5K and an untimed hike challenge for a relaxed experience. The night run is expected to feel cooler than the actual air temperature due to brisk winds averaging around 9.8 km/h, creating a refreshing environment for runners.
On race day, arrive by 6 PM for camping check-in and packet pickup at Greenway Gateway located at 2576 Lake Haigler Drive in Fort Mill. Live music will keep spirits high until the final event ends at 8:30 PM with awards ceremonies. Bibs can be collected here along with any necessary gear or merchandise.
