This year marks our seventh iteration of this unique event that has grown into a beloved tradition among night-time enthusiasts and seasoned ultra-runners alike. The race takes place along the serene single-track trails winding around Caesar Creek Lake, offering participants an enchanting journey through nature’s twilight hours.
Caesar Creek State Park transforms into a glowing oasis under moonlight and starry skies on this summer evening. As runners navigate the twists and turns of the yellow perimeter loop and red/green trail near Wellman Meadow, they become part of a vibrant tapestry woven from the threads of community spirit and athletic camaraderie. The park's lush canopy bathes the trails in soft shadows as sunset paints the horizon with hues of gold and orange, creating an unforgettable backdrop for this special night adventure.
Night Owl Trail Marathon has established itself not only as a sporting event but also as a cherished annual gathering that celebrates trail running culture and supports meaningful causes within the community. The course itself is a picturesque loop through Caesar Creek State Park's varied terrain, featuring both flat stretches along the lakefront and gentle inclines that test endurance without overwhelming effort. Runners will encounter four meticulously placed aid stations stocked with essential supplies like water, Tailwind energy drink, and an array of nutritious snacks designed to keep them fueled throughout their journey. Each distance—full marathon, half marathon, and 10K—begins at staggered times to allow for a more serene experience on the trails.
As evening descends upon Caesar Creek State Park in June, participants can expect mild temperatures that hover around an average of 22°C with occasional gusts reaching up to 10 km/h. The humidity remains moderate while there is only a slight chance of rain, making it ideal conditions for night runners who will appreciate the dry and hard trail surface underfoot. With UV index levels peaking at "Very High," sunscreen application becomes crucial before venturing out onto the course.

Empower Ultras invites you to join us in Waynesville on June 13th, where registration fees range from $85 for the 10K distance up to $125 for the marathon. Early bird discounts are available until April 1st and general entry closes on May 27th at midnight EST. Packet pickup will take place from noon to 6 PM on June 9th-10th, or runners can opt for race-day packet pick-up starting at 4:30 AM sharp.
All participants must ensure they carry mandatory gear including a headlamp with extra batteries, water bottle (or bladder), collapsible cup, and fully charged cell phone. The start location is located at 4020 N Clarksville Rd in Waynesville, Ohio. Age requirements are open to anyone who can legally consent.
