The Norfolk Coastal Trail Half and Full Marathons, organized by Runners-next-the-Sea, offer runners an unforgettable journey along the stunning coastline of East Anglia. This annual race series starts from two different locations — Holme-next-the-Sea for the full marathon and Burnham Overy Staithe for the half marathon — each contributing £5 per entry to support The East Anglian Air Ambulance. The event takes place on a well-marked route following the Norfolk Coast Path, known for its picturesque landscapes. Starting at 9:00 AM for the full marathon and 10:30 AM for the half marathon, runners will experience diverse terrain that includes sandy beaches, grassy paths, and scenic coastal views. Both races offer breathtaking scenery with stops along the way to enjoy refreshments at designated checkpoints. Full marathon participants can expect aid stations at Chalkpit Lane (6 miles), The Windmill in Burnham Overy Staithe (13 miles), Lady Anne’s Holkham Lookout (17 miles, water only and toilets available), Wells-next-the-Sea Sailing Club (20 miles), and Stiffkey Marsh car park (23 miles). Half marathon runners will find refreshments at Lady Anne’s Holkham Lookout (4 miles), Wells-next-the-Sea Sailing Club (7 miles), and Stiffkey Marsh car park (10 miles). Race organizers emphasize the importance of self-sufficiency, recommending that participants carry snacks and hydration to reach these checkpoints. The course is not suitable for wheelchairs or dogs accompanying runners. Transport options are available from the finish line back to the start location before race day begins, costing £12 per person if booked alongside entry registration. Car parking at both Holme-next-the-Sea Beach car park and Morston car park is pay-and-display; however, drop-off only parking is provided in Burnham Overy playing field for a limited time. Safety measures include first aiders stationed along the route and checkpoints where race numbers are manually recorded to ensure participant safety. Finish times will be tracked using electronic timing mats at key points throughout the course. The event welcomes runners of all abilities, offering bespoke finisher medals and prizes for top male and female competitors in both races. With a maximum age limit of 18 years on race day, this is an excellent opportunity to challenge oneself while enjoying the beauty of Norfolk’s coastline.
