In 2018, the population was 38,000. Norwich was founded in 1659 when settlers from Old Saybrook, Connecticut, purchased land from Chief Uncas, leader of the Mohegan Native American tribe. Because of this, with a short drive you can enter Uncasville where the magnificent Mohegan Sun Casino is located.
