Not A Sprint Ultra Races

The 5th Annual Not-A-Sprint Ultra Races, hosted by Cancer Active, invites all endurance enthusiasts to Forest City, North Carolina for an unforgettable journey on the Thermal Belt Rail Trail. This scenic and flat course offers runners of every level a chance to challenge themselves in a supportive community setting.
Set against the backdrop of lush greenery along the rail trail, this 8.34-mile out-and-back loop is ideal for those looking to push their limits or simply enjoy the serene surroundings at their own pace. The route features minimal elevation gain—just 95 feet over its entirety—and approximately one-third of it offers welcome shade from the late summer sun.
Participants can choose between three race categories: a grueling 12-hour event, an intense 6-hour challenge, or a more relaxed 3-hour experience. For those aiming for distance milestones, completing six laps within the 12-hour window earns you a coveted "Not-A-Sprint" belt buckle and recognition as one of the top finishers.
The race day starts early with staggered start times designed to accommodate each category's duration: 6 AM for the marathon effort, followed by 6:30 AM for those tackling six hours, and finally at 7 AM for the three-hour event. Aid stations along the route provide essential hydration and energy refuels, ensuring runners stay hydrated and nourished throughout their journey.
