NYC Cup - Breezy Time Trial (Inline skates; Road, Fixed & TT bikes)
About the Event
Welcome to Breezy Time Trial, part of the exciting NYC Cup Series. This unique time trial is set along the picturesque Beach Channel Drive at Rockaways and offers participants an exhilarating experience amidst the natural beauty of the area. Race day registration fees apply a $15 late fee for those signing up on race day. To get familiar with the course before the event, you can drive it or arrive early to check out the race setup. A USA Cycling license is required if you are competing in this time trial. Breezy Time Trial is one of several events that contribute points towards the NYC Cup Series overall awards for various categories including Cat Pro/1-3, 02/07/26 Groundhog Classic; Cat 3/4, with $2000 in total prizes (Top 7); Masters 40+, earning up to $1000 (Top 5) and Masters 55+ securing a maximum of $500 (Top 3). Women’s Road and Fixed events also have their own separate categories. The race starts on Saturday, September 20, 2026. Early registration is encouraged as it streamlines the process and helps avoid errors. Day-of registration will be available but closes ten minutes before the start of the event. Registration can be transferred for free to anyone else if needed; just text in advance. Participants are advised to arrive early to familiarize themselves with the course, which begins at Beach 116th St on Beach Channel Drive and concludes near Rockaway Beach Blvd. The race schedule is meticulously planned: individual bike time trials start from 7:45 am onwards, while speed skating races begin at 8:20 am as a mass start event. For cyclists, the race has specific instructions to ensure safety and fairness. Riders must start with one foot on the ground upon hearing the whistle and cross the finish line to report their bib number for precise timing. Skaters are required to wear helmets while keeping the road clear until they reach Breezy Point community booth where a U-turn is necessary. The course itself is marked by signs, particularly at Beach 222nd Street where both cyclists and skaters must make a crucial turn around a green traffic cone with an "U-Turn" sign. The total distance for the time trial is approximately 4.03 miles, requiring riders to navigate carefully while maintaining their pace. Awards will be presented in a ceremony at Beach 149th St & Rockaway Beach Blvd from 9:30 am onwards, honoring top performers across all categories with champagne celebrations reserved for the winners of Overall Individual Time Trial (ITT) Men and Women, Speed Skating Men and Women. Sponsors like Arias Sportswear support this event by providing high-quality athletic apparel to participants. Dr. Chris O'Neal, a compassionate clinician known for his work in bike advocacy, and New York Bike Lawyers, which actively supports cyclists’ rights through legal representation, are also key partners.
