NYC Cup - Randall's Island Crit (Road & Fixed Gear Bikes)
About the Event
Welcome to the Randall's Island Criterium, part of the exciting NYC Cup Series. This thrilling urban cycling event takes place on July 19th at the picturesque Randall’s Island Park, New York City. The race promises an exhilarating experience with its challenging yet scenic course that winds through the island’s vibrant landscape. The 1450-meter track is flat and features a total of ten turns—seven right and three left—that will test your skill and agility. Turn one presents a tight chicane requiring precise speed control, while turn seven offers high-speed downhill entry with critical braking skills needed to navigate this classic hairpin. The atmosphere at the Randall’s Island Criterium is electric as thousands of spectators line the course, cheering on competitors from all over. The narrowest part of the track measures 4 meters wide, and it expands up to 8 meters in some sections, adding a layer of complexity to positioning and pacing throughout the race. Registration for this event will be held at the large parking lot near the Start/Finish line, with check-in opening one hour before the first heat. A valid USAC or UCI license is required; late registration incurs a $10 fee. Timing chips from other races may remain on your bicycle if you wish to keep them. The course itself is meticulously maintained and marked for safety, ensuring that all riders can focus on their performance without worrying about unexpected obstacles. The start/finish straight measures 122 meters in length, with the final corner leading directly into it. After crossing the finish line, continue straight towards the lawn area if safe to do so. The Randall’s Island Criterium is open for USA Cycling upgrade points and offers significant awards across various categories: - Cat Pro/1/2/3: $5000 in overall awards (top 7) - Cat 3/4: $2000 in overall awards (top 7) - Masters 40+: $1000 in overall awards (top 5) - Women’s Road: $500 in overall awards (top 3) - Men and Women Fixed Gear Bikes: $1000 ($500 for women) in overall awards (top 5) Riders must start with one foot on the ground, ensuring a fair competition. Track stands or leaning on railings are prohibited during heats. The race will be broadcast live online through Road-Results.com and USA Cycling’s website within two days of the event, providing detailed results for all participants. Photos from previous years can be found at the Verrazano Team Facebook page, with specific galleries dedicated to men's and women's road bikes as well as fixed gear categories. Join us on July 19th for an unforgettable cycling experience amidst New York City’s natural beauty!
