Capital Sprints presents the Oakwood University 5K, sponsored by the Oakwood University Centennial Class of 1996 and the 130th Class of 2026.
Join alumni, students, friends, and supporters for the Oakwood University 5K, a special Alumni Weekend celebration of health, heritage, and purpose, right on the campus of Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama. This scenic campus course winds through the heart of the university, offering runners and walkers a chance to experience Oakwood’s beautiful grounds, historic landmarks, and vibrant community in a whole new way.
Founded in 1896 by the Seventh-day Adventist Church to educate newly freed African Americans in the South, Oakwood University has long stood as a beacon of academic excellence, Christian education, and service. As a historically Black institution, Oakwood continues to live out its timeless motto: “Enter to Learn, Depart to Serve.”
Whether you’re coming back to campus for Alumni Weekend, chasing a new personal best, or enjoying a relaxed walk with classmates and friends, the Oakwood University 5K is a chance to reconnect, celebrate, and give back. Your participation helps support scholarships, campus initiatives, and the next generation of Oakwood leaders who are being prepared to serve God and humanity.
All participants registered by March 13th are guaranteed to receive an official race t-shirt. Don’t miss out on being part of this memorable Alumni Weekend tradition!
