OCTOBER CYCLEFEST - Octoginta 57 & Tour de Chicken Creek
About the Event
October CycleFest brings cycling enthusiasts to Lawrence, Kansas, with two exciting rides on consecutive weekends. The Tour de Chicken Creek gravel ride kicks off Saturday morning at 7:00 AM from Lone Star Lake Community Building, just 20 minutes southwest of the city center. Participants can choose between a challenging 100K (Big Bird) and a more accessible 50K (Bantam), with an additional novice-friendly Bantam start led by experienced local cyclists. After refueling at one of Lawrence's renowned eateries, head over to Broken Arrow Park for the Bicycle Swap Meet. This vibrant event offers a chance to trade or purchase cycling gear while enjoying the park’s scenic playground shelter and exploring the area's bike culture through an expo with community partners. On Sunday, Octoginta 57 returns as the 57th annual road race, starting from Broken Arrow Park Shelter at 7:30 AM. With distances ranging from 26 to 80 miles, riders can start anytime between 7:30 and 9:00 AM. Early starters of the 80-mile route are advised to begin early due to a cutoff time at mile 31 by 11:00 AM. Both rides promise a picturesque experience through Lawrence’s rolling countryside and low-traffic rural roads, offering cyclists breathtaking views and a serene atmosphere. A pre-event packet pickup is available from 2:00 PM on Friday at Sunflower Outdoor & Bike Shop in downtown Lawrence. The swap meet runs concurrently with early packet pick-up. Volunteers are needed to help make the event successful; sign up for volunteer opportunities if you can contribute but prefer not to ride.
