About the Event

West Branch State Park hosts the 2026 Ohio State MTB Championship Race, an exciting event organized by the Cleveland Area Mountain Bike Association (CAMBA) and Shenanigans Jr Cycling. This year marks significant trail expansions led by Mike Ryba of CAMBA and ODNR, celebrating a milestone in Northeastern Ohio's cycling landscape.
Participants can enjoy camping privileges at the park’s trailhead with RV sites available for booking. A group campfire is planned on Friday and Saturday evenings to foster camaraderie among riders. Practice laps will be marked early on Saturday morning, allowing racers to familiarize themselves with the course before competition begins.
Rain or shine, this championship race promises a thrilling experience from start to finish. Whether you're an experienced racer or just starting out, there's something for everyone in the diverse categories ranging from Cat 1 down to Jr Novice divisions.
Day-of registration is available but strongly encouraged as early sign-ups help ensure smoother event logistics. Day-of registrants will face an additional $10 fee after 6 pm on Saturday and must complete their number pickup within one hour before race start times.
The day's schedule begins with Cat 3 Jr Novice races at 9:30 am, followed by the Kids' category at the same time for those under U13. At 10 am, the Cat 3 Jr Novice division takes off, setting a pace that will be closely watched throughout the event.
For all other categories, registration and packet pickup open from 9 am. The first wave of Cat 1 racers hits the trails at noon, with subsequent waves for remaining Cat 2 and Cat 3 categories starting just after 12:40 pm. Adaptive racing participants may have their start time adjusted based on individual needs.
All podium ceremonies will take place between 2:30 to 3 pm, showcasing the winners of each category in a celebratory atmosphere that honors both seasoned racers and newcomers alike.
West Branch State Park offers a picturesque setting with varied terrain perfect for mountain biking. The race environment is designed to be safe and enjoyable, with Cat 2 and Cat 3 racers starting after Cat 1 and E-Bike categories have completed their first lap to minimize conflicts on the course.
USA Cycling licenses are required for registration in this championship series, ensuring a structured competition that also includes opportunities for USAC point accumulation. The event aligns with USA Cycling's rules regarding race age classifications and eligibility criteria, making it an ideal platform for both local enthusiasts and those looking to compete at a national level.
