Oldhamstocks Flower Show Hill Race

Dive into the picturesque landscapes and vibrant atmosphere of Oldhamstocks with the annual Flower Show Hill Run, organized by Rhona Anderson and Dunbar Running Club. This scenic 6.5km route takes runners through the rolling Lammermuir hills near Dunbar, offering a mix of challenging terrain and stunning scenery.
Starting at noon from opposite the church in Oldhamstocks—just steps away from the village hall—the race winds along a rough track for most of its length before concluding on tarmac. The course features around 200 meters of elevation gain, with one particularly steep section that adds an extra challenge to this already engaging run.
Registration opens at 11:00 in the Oldhamstocks Village Hall, where runners can collect their race numbers until 15 minutes prior to the start time. Entry on the day costs £8 (cash only), and while exchanges are not possible for race numbers, they serve as essential identification throughout the event.
Safety is a top priority; route maps will be available at registration, and small flags/tape mark the course. Key gates along the way will have marshals to assist runners, ensuring that everyone can enjoy this volunteer-run experience safely. It's important to note that walking poles or sticks are not allowed in line with Scottish Hill Runner’s policy.
Prizes await those who cross the finish line first: awards for both male and female winners as well as veteran categories (over 40 and over 50) and junior runners (U18). Full results will be posted on the Oldhamstocks Village website following the event.
The day promises to extend beyond just running, with the Flower Show opening at 13:30, inviting participants to explore exhibits, indulge in afternoon tea, watch dog shows, participate in children's sports events, and enjoy a tug of war competition.
While there are no water stations along the course, ample car parking is available near the village. Toilet facilities can be found at the Oldhamstocks Village Hall, though shower options are not provided on-site.
