Explore the rugged beauty of the Arizona National Scenic Trail as part of Operation Freedom March, an inspiring year-long journey honoring military veterans. This initiative, launching on July 4, 2025, and concluding on Independence Day 2026, invites all military service members, families, and supporters to cover a total of 800 miles together. The trail offers diverse landscapes, from the North Rim of the Grand Canyon to the lush forests near Happy Jack in Coconino National Forest. Participants can choose their own pace or join established activities led by AZT VETS (Arizona Trail Association’s Veterans Engagement and Stewardship) teams. Whether you hike, ride a bike, or hoof it along the trail, every step brings you closer to your goal while contributing to vital veteran support initiatives. Over Memorial Day weekend, Team RWB Eagle Expedition and AZT VETS united on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, celebrating service with breathtaking views and camaraderie. On Veterans Day weekend, Team Rubicon West Branch and AZT VETS worked together to build a new connector trail from Gordon Hirabayashi Campground on Mt. Lemmon, enhancing access while honoring veterans through stewardship. Operation Freedom March emphasizes community engagement and inclusivity. Participants are encouraged to form teams mirroring military squad structures, fostering teamwork and leadership. Designate leaders for your team—perhaps as "Squad Leaders"—to keep everyone motivated and connected throughout the journey. Volunteers from AZT VETS maintain sections of the trail near Happy Jack, ensuring its sustainability for future generations. Over Memorial Day weekend, these volunteers shared stunning vistas with Team RWB Eagle Expedition members in Miller Peak Wilderness, overlooking Mexico and reflecting on service and sacrifice. The campaign offers numerous opportunities to engage beyond just hiking. Join mission therapy events open to the general public or specifically designed for veterans and their families. Organize community gatherings that deepen connections among participants. Share your experiences through blogs, videos, or photo essays, contributing to a rich narrative of this historic journey. On Fox Squad crew member Dallas "Grit" Stevens' last day on the trail with Derek Duba, they enjoyed music, camaraderie, and reflections inspired by their service to the Arizona Trail. These moments highlight the personal challenges and shared triumphs that define Operation Freedom March. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or new to long-distance trails, Operation Freedom March promises an unforgettable experience of adventure, honor, and community. Join us in celebrating America's 250th anniversary by walking side-by-side with fellow veterans, families, and supporters along the Arizona National Scenic Trail.

About Tucson
Learn more about the host city, Tucson.
Tucson (TOO-sawn), also known as the "Old Pueblo", is the second-largest city in the state of Arizona and the county seat of Pima County in the Sonoran Desert. It is at a higher elevation than nearby Phoenix and is correspondingly cooler. Although with half a million residents it is smaller than the capital city, its cultural life is just as vibrant.
