On September 30th, join the vibrant community of Saskatoon for the third annual Orange Shirt Day Run/Walk. This meaningful event honors Indigenous children who did not survive Canada's Residential school era and shows solidarity with survivors striving daily for healing and justice. The run/walk will take place along the picturesque Meewasin Trail, winding through Victoria Park and neighboring parks while hugging the banks of the Saskatchewan River. Participants can choose from three distances: a 5km trail run, a 10km loop that offers scenic views around every turn, or a family-friendly 2.15km walk/stroll/run designed for Elders and children. The event aims to raise funds for initiatives supported by OrangeShirtDay.org, local grassroots movements in Saskatoon, and the promotion of Indigenous athletes across Saskatchewan. The journey begins and ends at "Coming Spring," a significant monument located within Victoria Park, serving as a poignant reminder of hope and resilience. Proceeds from this year's event will contribute to ongoing efforts for truth and reconciliation, with a focus on acknowledging the thousands of unmarked graves discovered near former Residential school sites in Canada. By participating, runners not only celebrate community but also advocate loudly that "EVERY CHILD MATTERS." Join us as we honor the past while looking toward a brighter future together.
