OTF Whitby 5k Run/Walk

The OTF Whitby 5K Run/Walk returns to Whitby, Ontario on August 15th, offering participants a memorable event by the water. The run/walk begins at Heydenshore Park and finishes there as well, providing scenic views along the waterfront. With both a 5k for adults and a Kids 1k, this race caters to all ages.
Heydenshore Park is situated near Lakeshore Road West in Whitby's picturesque waterfront area. On race morning, expect a crisp early-morning atmosphere with participants gathering from various parts of the city. The event offers something for everyone, combining physical challenge and community spirit.
Now entering its fifth year, this run/walk has become an established tradition, drawing hundreds of participants each time. Over the years, it has raised significant funds for the Ontario Shores Foundation, supporting vital mental health programs in Durham Region. This race not only provides a rewarding experience but also contributes to making a difference in local communities.
The course follows a firm and slightly soft terrain along the waterfront path at Heydenshore Park. The 5k route is marked with several notable features such as the iconic pier and scenic overlooks, providing runners with both challenges and beautiful scenery. For those participating in the Kids 1k or U13 5k categories, there are special sections designed to keep little legs moving.
The race starts at 9:00 AM for the 5k, followed by a 30-minute interval before the next group sets off. The finish line is back at Heydenshore Park, where runners can enjoy post-race refreshments and festivities. There are no aid stations on this course; however, water bottles will be provided upon request.
Elevation-wise, there’s minimal change throughout the race as the path stays mostly flat along the waterfront. On August 15th, expect a high UV index of 7.0, so sunscreen is recommended for all participants to stay protected from the sun's rays during your run or walk by the lake.
