The Outlands Endurance Races return to Peninsula Campground near Pilot Hill, California on April 17th and 18th, marking their expansion from a single-day trail running event into an immersive weekend of endurance racing. The heart of the race lies in Folsom Lake's remote singletrack trails, offering runners and mountain bikers alike unparalleled terrain and vistas. On Saturday morning, three challenging distances await: the 25K (15.5 miles), 50K (31.1 miles), and the grueling 50-mile trek. Each run begins at Peninsula Campground but ventures far beyond its borders into rugged lakeshore singletrack with steady climbs, quiet stretches of trail, and breathtaking panoramic views that few races can match. The shorter distances—25K and 50K—are perfect for runners new to trail or ultramarathon racing who want a taste of the Outlands' challenging terrain. The full marathon distance adds more time on your feet with harder sections, ideal for those seeking an epic day in nature. All trail run registrations are handled through UltraSignup. Sunday brings the introduction of the 50K Mountain Bike Race, starting at Magnolia Ranch and finishing back at Peninsula Campground after a scenic trek through Salmon Falls Ranch and surrounding areas. Participants can leave their cars at the finish line and catch shuttles to the start point. Aid stations are strategically placed along the route: Cronin Ranch (mile 8), Salmon Ranch 1 (mile 16), and Salmon Ranch 2 (mile 21). Bikers interested in this event should register through BikeReg. For those up for a double challenge, the Space Bunny Challenge invites runners to complete any of Saturday's trail distances followed by Sunday’s MTB race. Finish both events and claim your unique plaque and jersey as proof of your endurance prowess. Simply add the MTB 50K ride option during your UltraSignup registration on Saturday. Aid stations for all running races are well-stocked with essentials like gels, chips, candy, potatoes, bananas, water, and Skratch Hydration to keep participants fueled throughout their journey. The event promises an unforgettable experience in the serene beauty of Folsom Lake’s backcountry trails and remote terrain.
