Dive into a unique running experience that challenges you to conquer darkness and terrain. Outrun the Night is an exhilarating 12-hour event set within the enchanting Dalkeith Country Park in Edinburgh. Participants are invited to explore a meticulously crafted 5km loop through lush woodlands and winding roads, illuminated only by moonlight.
This challenge offers unparalleled flexibility, allowing runners to complete as many loops as they wish. Whether you're aiming for your first night trail run or pushing yourself towards an ultra distance, Outrun the Night accommodates all levels of ambition. Solo adventurers can tackle this course alone, while teams of two and four have the option to compete in relay format.
The race begins at 7pm with a mandatory briefing followed by registration from 4:30 pm onwards for base camp setup. As darkness falls, the park transforms into an eerie yet captivating landscape where every step is guided by reflective markers and headlamps. The course features uneven terrain, exposed roots, and unpredictable weather conditions that add to its allure.
Base camp serves as a sanctuary between loops, offering runners and their support crews a place to rest, refuel, and strategize. Each runner or team can bring one tent or gazebo with dimensions of up to 3m x 3m for comfort and convenience. Music is encouraged at base camp but should be kept respectful to maintain the serene atmosphere.
The event provides essential amenities such as drinking water, hot water for instant food preparation, basic snacks, toilets, professional medical support, and a staffed base camp. Runners are required to bring their own meals, fuel, reusable cups or bottles, suitable trail footwear, clothing appropriate for cold weather conditions, working headtorches with spare batteries or an additional light source, fully charged mobile phones, and necessary safety gear.
As the night progresses, runners will be treated to a vibrant party atmosphere enhanced by live music provided throughout. Spectators are welcome to cheer on participants from designated areas within the park grounds.
First-place male and female winners will receive free entry to the upcoming Burgh Backyard event along with running-shop vouchers. Additional prizes for top three men and women include complimentary entries into future races organized by Momentm Events.
Safety is a priority, so any changes in route or timing may occur if necessary due to adverse weather conditions. All participants must adhere strictly to guidelines regarding equipment requirements and respect the park's environment and wildlife during their journey through Outrun the Night.
