The Ozark’s Mountain Challenge invites endurance enthusiasts to conquer the rugged terrain of Mudlick Mountain, nestled within Sam A. Baker State Park in Missouri. This challenging hike is designed for those who seek both physical and mental triumphs against a backdrop of stunning natural beauty. ### Event Details: - Date: May 1, 2027 - Location: CCC Lodge at Sam A. Baker State Park Participants will have twelve hours to complete eight ascents up Mudlick Mountain, each ascent amounting to nearly 950 feet in elevation and approximately 2.8 miles of rugged terrain. The route includes the Mudlick Hike Only Trail, followed by a journey through the Mudlick Equestrian and Hike Trail, culminating at the Fire Tower Trail before descending back down. ### Course Highlights: - Vertical Ascent: Each ascent equals an elevation change similar to climbing Mount Olympus in Washington State. - Terrain Challenges: The trail features steep inclines of up to 28%, making it a true test for hikers and mountain enthusiasts alike. - Support System: Post each successful climb, participants will be shuttled back down to the base, allowing them ample time to refuel and rest before tackling another ascent. ### Spark of Strength Ceremony: On Friday evening, April 30, from 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM at CCC Lodge, hikers can participate in a meaningful ceremony known as "Spark of Strength." This event offers an opportunity for participants to symbolically release personal burdens by writing them down and burning the notes in a fire pit. The branding iron will be ignited to signify transformation and new beginnings. ### Event Experience: - Accommodations: Participants are responsible for their own lodging, but recommendations can be provided. - Support Services: A recovery tent offers essential aids such as hydration, nutrition, and medical support throughout the event day. - After Party: Immediately following the challenge on May 1st around 7:00 PM, an after-party will celebrate all participants’ achievements. ### Registration: Registration includes access to meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner), beverages, recovery aids at aid stations, post-event swag, and admission to the Spark of Strength Ceremony. Additional meal/drink passes for friends or family can be purchased separately for $25 each. This event is not a race but rather an individual challenge where participants compete against themselves in terms of physical endurance and mental fortitude. Spectators are welcome near the starting area to cheer on their loved ones, adding to the supportive atmosphere that defines this unique mountain experience.
