Join us on September 10th as we celebrate National Suicide Prevention Month with the Frost Pedal for Prevention, an exciting cycling event benefiting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). This year’s ride offers three scenic gravel routes: a challenging 45-mile loop, a moderately paced 30-mile route, and a beginner-friendly 20-mile journey. Each participant will receive one beer from Frost Beer Works and a pair of bike socks to keep the ride comfortable. The event kicks off at 8:00 AM with registration outside the Frost Beer Works taproom. At 8:30 AM, AFSP representatives will deliver opening remarks to kickstart the day’s activities. By 8:55 AM, riders gather for a group photo and important instructions before setting out on their chosen route. Participants can choose from three distinct routes: - The 45-mile route departs at 9:10 AM. - The 30-mile route follows closely behind at 9:15 AM. - And the shorter, yet rewarding 20-mile ride starts at 9:20 AM. After a morning of cycling through picturesque Vermont landscapes, riders will enjoy post-ride festivities from noon to 3:00 PM. The Southern Smoke BBQ food truck and Frost Beer Works taproom will be open for refreshments. Riders can purchase additional drinks and food if desired, with water and seltzer available in coolers both inside the event space and outside. Safety is paramount on this day. Obey traffic rules by riding on the right side of the road, stop at all lights and signs, and use hand signals when necessary. Helmets are mandatory; a red taillight is highly recommended to ensure visibility during your journey. Two aid stations will provide support: - The first station, located at Frost Beer Works, caters primarily to 45-mile riders. - A second station in the Pavillion of Morse Park/Dog Park on Pond Road in Monkton serves all participants. Earls Cyclery will be present with a sag wagon for mechanical assistance. The ride concludes by 1:30 PM as Great Eastern Radio announces and sends off each wave, ensuring a smooth transition between routes. Riders can expect a celebratory atmosphere at Frost Beer Works starting at 11:15 AM when the brewery opens its doors to welcome all participants. Food trucks will be serving delicious meals from noon onwards. Parking is advised near the Animal Hospital of Hinesburg or National Bank of Middlebury, with clear entry paths maintained for bank patrons throughout the day. Carpooling and biking are encouraged as they help reduce congestion at the event site. For those seeking a place to rest their heads after the ride, several hotels within 12-15 minutes drive from Frost Beer Works offer convenient accommodation options: - Sonesta ES Suites on Hurricane Lane in Burlington - Courtyard by Marriott also on Hurricane Lane in Burlington - Fairfield Inn located on George Road in Williston Registration and check-in take place between 8:00 AM to 8:45 AM at the Frost Beer Works taproom. Each rider receives one raffle ticket; additional tickets can be purchased for cash or via Venmo. Post ride, riders will enjoy live music and announcements by Great Eastern Radio while enjoying Southern Smoke BBQ's culinary delights from noon until 2:00 PM. Water and seltzer are available in the event space and outside coolers. Two bathrooms are conveniently located— one near the taproom bar and another within the main venue. Join us for a day that combines beautiful Vermont scenery, community support, and meaningful fundraising efforts to break down stigmas surrounding mental health issues. Your participation not only supports AFSP’s vital research, education, advocacy, and support programs but also contributes to creating a more compassionate world where everyone feels heard and supported.
