The event kicks off at 9:00 AM on designated days, starting with the 15-kilometer racers who will begin their journey at U-turn point two. Handcycles, paracycles, and junior racers follow closely behind. For those seeking a challenge in aerodynamics, there are separate categories for women’s and men’s time trial bikes (Aero Style) commencing at 10:00 AM. To compete as part of the Merckx category, riders must avoid using disc wheels, deep aero wheels over 60mm, aero bars, or aerodynamic frames. Helmets with significant aerodynamic features are also prohibited. Riders can declare their preference during online registration or upon arrival at the staging area; otherwise, they will be categorized as time trial bikes. Participants should arrive by 7:00 AM to register and warm up. A structured pre-race session is scheduled from 8:10 AM to 8:40 AM, led by a coach who provides valuable insights into course previewing, safety briefings on U-turns, pacing tips for the race, and wind forecasts. The main racing events start promptly at 9:00 AM. The time trial courses include an 8-mile out-and-back route with two U-turns, followed by a more challenging 15-kilometer course that adds one additional turn around for a total of three U-turns. A special edition 8.5-mile time trial is also available. The perfect location for these events offers minimal traffic and long straightaways, making it ideal for testing your power over 20 minutes. Riders can access detailed course maps via RidewithGPS to prepare thoroughly. Florida Polytechnic University at 4700 Research Way in Lakeland serves as the base of operations. Parking is conveniently located on Research Way near its intersection with University Blvd., just west of the university’s western entrance, and is free for all participants. Post-race festivities include awards ceremonies where top performers in each category are honored. Following this, a group ride ranging from 30 to 50 miles will commence at approximately 10:45 AM, offering both easy and moderate-hard pace options. The standard route covers around 45 miles. The overall series concludes with comprehensive points awarded based on the top eight results in each category over ten races. Medals are given for the top three positions per category, while a special jersey and trophy await the winners of every division. Points from two lowest finishes can be dropped to ensure consistent competition throughout the season.
