PHM Run for the Residents

PHM Run for the Residents returns to Markham, Ontario on Saturday, October 3rd. The event starts at Butternut Manor and ends at Frances Di Carlo House, stopping at all seven PHM group homes and community locations along the way.
Race morning finds participants assembling in the crisp autumn air of Markham's picturesque streets. As runners gather near Butternut Manor, they are greeted by familiar faces from the local community who have come to cheer on this worthy cause. The event is a mix of familiarity and challenge—runners will traverse firm yet slightly soft trails that wind through neighborhoods known for their charm.
The PHM Run for the Residents has been running since 2013, raising funds year after year for Participation House Markham, an organization dedicated to providing assisted living supports to adults with complex disabilities. This year marks its 14th edition and aims to continue its legacy of community support. With over a thousand participants last year alone, the event has become deeply rooted in local tradition.
The race offers a single runner option covering 21 kilometers and a team of two option for 10 kilometers. Both distances are designed to challenge while providing an accessible way to contribute to such an important cause.
Course venue, terrain, surface, layout: The course runs through firm yet slightly soft trails that vary in texture depending on the recent weather conditions. Runners will experience both paved and dirt surfaces as they navigate through the scenic neighborhoods of Markham.
Start and finish details, elevation, aid stations: Participants start at Butternut Manor and head towards Frances Di Carlo House, stopping by all seven PHM group homes along the way. The course is mostly flat with minimal changes in elevation, ensuring a smooth run for everyone involved. There will be no official aid stations; however, spectators are encouraged to line the route.
Weather: On race morning, expect a UV index of 4.0 (moderate) and temperatures ranging from cool to mild—expect highs around 15°C with a chance of light drizzle in the early hours as night turns into dawn.
