The Platte River 5K returns to Royalton, Minnesota on July 25th for its twentieth consecutive year. This event is part of the annual Platte River Day organized by the Royalton Lions Club and sponsored by the Royalton High School Cross Country and Track and Field team.
Race morning finds participants gathering at the picturesque Royal Park, located off Main Street in downtown Royalton, a charming town known for its vibrant community spirit. The setting on race day is peaceful; the air filled with the early morning chill as runners prepare to take part in this beloved event that has been a cornerstone of local tradition.
Since 2007, the Platte River 5K has grown from a small neighborhood run into a significant gathering for the community. This year marks its twentieth edition, and organizers anticipate hundreds of participants who have come to support not only their own fitness goals but also raise funds for important local causes through this race.
The course venue follows the banks of the Platte River, offering runners a scenic route that is both challenging and rewarding. The terrain features hard and dry surfaces, making it ideal for those looking to push themselves in a controlled setting. Runners can expect a flat out-and-back layout with notable landmarks such as the Royalton High School visible along parts of the course.
At 7:00 am sharp on race day, participants will line up at the starting point just outside the school's main entrance. The route is marked clearly and well-kept to ensure safety for all runners. Aid stations are strategically placed throughout the course but do not hinder the flow due to their spacing. For those running with their furry friends, a K-9 Run/Walk will also be available.
Weather on race day in July can be variable; temperatures hover around 21.6°C, feeling slightly cooler at dawn and warmer by midday. The humidity levels are moderate at 71.3%, but the sunshine is plentiful with an average of thirteen hours per day, making it a comfortable yet invigorating morning to run.
