Prairie Chaos Backyard Ultra invites trail enthusiasts and endurance athletes to Little Mountain Park, Winnipeg's hidden gem of natural beauty. This unique race challenges participants with the relentless rhythm of a 6.7056 km (4.16 miles) loop that winds through open prairie landscapes interspersed with shaded forest paths. Each lap offers runners an ever-evolving terrain filled with roots and rocks, keeping spirits high as competitors navigate the dynamic course. Scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026, starting at 7:00 AM, Prairie Chaos is a testament to grit and determination. Runners must complete each loop within one hour; missing the bell means elimination from the competition. The race continues until only one runner remains undefeated, embodying the essence of perseverance. Participants will receive essential gear such as bib numbers, custom race socks, and Buffs upon registration. A "Did Not Finish" medal is awarded to all competitors who show up on the day, while the sole winner receives a distinctive prize celebrating their tenacity and resilience throughout the event. The start/finish line area provides ample space for each runner’s personal station or camp setup beginning at 5:00 AM. An aid station will be available with typical ultramarathon provisions including water, electrolyte drinks, sweet and salty snacks, as well as warm food overnight. While these supplies are provided, participants are encouraged to bring their preferred hydration and nutrition for maximum self-sufficiency. Facilities nearby include an indoor lodge near the start/finish area featuring restrooms and a small sheltered space with a water fountain. Portable toilets will also be available close by throughout the race day from 7:00 AM onwards, ensuring convenience amidst the challenge. Prairie Chaos Backyard Ultra adheres strictly to official rules of competition, emphasizing fair play and safety for all participants. This event is part of Big's Backyard Ultra’s "At Large" category, making it a significant milestone in endurance racing circles.
