On September 19, 2026, the community comes together for an uplifting Wellness Day celebration featuring health screenings, wellness giveaways, resources, food, music, and plenty of family-friendly activities. The event takes place from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at GAGDC's parking lot located on 839 W 79th Street.
A highlight of the day is a leisurely guided walk covering approximately 3.5 miles, which includes visits through three picturesque parks in the area—Foster Park and Dawes Park among them. The route begins with participants walking westward along 83rd Street from Green Avenue to Damen Avenue before heading north briefly into Dawes Park for a turnaround point. Participants then make their way back south on 83rd Street, eventually returning east toward the finish line.
Participants gather at GAGDC’s front door starting at 9:00 am to warm up in the parking lot and prepare for the walk led by volunteers who guide everyone down Green Avenue together at 9:15 am. Those opting out of walking an extra half-mile each way can be driven directly from the start location to the finish line, ensuring that all participants have a comfortable experience.
The event offers something for every member of the community with health screenings and giveaways available throughout the day in addition to engaging activities such as games and live music entertainment. No eligibility screening is required, making it an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome regardless of their background or fitness level. Community members can simply walk into the lot without prior sign-up; however, pre-registration for walkers helps organizers prepare adequately with water stations and marshals along the course.
