The run takes place over 5 loops of approximately 10 kilometers each. The course winds its way up the mountain, providing a challenging yet scenic route for runners. As part of this unique event, participants are required to bring one pumpkin—no gourds allowed! This quirky addition adds an element of fun and unpredictability as you navigate the terrain with your chosen squash in tow.
The highlight of the day is carrying pumpkins up the mountain's steep inclines. Each runner must complete at least two full loops before they can carry a pumpkin for one loop, ensuring that everyone has warmed up properly. The pumpkins are distributed randomly to avoid any undue challenges from overly large specimens, but participants who manage to bring their pumpkin back unscathed will receive a special prize.
Aid stations will be available at the start/finish area, providing essential hydration and snacks throughout your run. To minimize environmental impact and promote carpooling, parking is limited on-site, so plan accordingly or arrange for carpools with fellow runners.
The event aims to give back to the community by collecting canned goods from participants to donate to a local food bank. As an added treat, there's a chance that pie will be awarded to some of the winners at the finish line.
With stunning fall foliage and the camaraderie among runners, this run offers more than just physical challenge; it’s a celebration of autumn spirit and community engagement.
