Race Across Dorset

Race Across Dorset returns on May 15, 2027, bringing runners through breathtaking landscapes from one side of the county to the other. The race offers three distances: an epic 75k ultra marathon starting at Summerlands Camping near Coombe Bissett and a challenging 50k that begins south of Blandford. For those seeking a shorter yet scenic route, 'The Purbeck Traverse' covers 18 miles from Bere Regis to Kimmeridge.
Runners will experience minimal road sections with most of the course traversing rolling chalk downlands and ancient villages like Wareham, known for its well-preserved medieval walls. The terrain features several good hills that provide stunning vistas, including a rare view of distant Purbeck Hills from the starting point under ideal conditions.
The second half of the 75k route winds through beautiful lowland heath and pine forests before climbing up to the Purbeck ridges for breathtaking views of Poole Harbour and possibly even the Isle of Wight. The race culminates with a challenging ascent followed by rewarding descents, offering panoramic vistas of the English Channel and Jurassic Coast.
Aid stations will be well-placed along the route, and runners can book transport to ease their journey. GPX files are available for download and use during the event. With its unique permissions allowing access to private routes, Race Across Dorset promises an unforgettable experience for trail runners seeking a blend of challenge and scenic beauty.
Join this remarkable adventure on May 15, 2027, for what is sure to be one of Britain's most memorable running experiences.
