The Yorkshire Pen-Y-Ghent Ultra invites trail runners of all levels, from beginners to elite athletes, to experience the rugged beauty and rich history of North Yorkshire. This 50-kilometer race takes place over classic limestone trails and offers a unique blend of adventure and scenic splendor. Participants will start and finish at Hawes Market House, following in the footsteps of ancient Roman Legions as they traverse the Cam Road towards Horton-In-Ribblesdale. The route features an ascent to Pen-y-Ghent's summit before returning along the same trails. With a total elevation gain of 1280 meters, runners will be treated to breathtaking views and challenging terrain. The race is supported by Ranger Ultras Team staff who provide water, snacks, and hot soup at key points like Kidhow Gate and Horton-In-Ribblesdale. Navigation course notes are sent regularly via email leading up to the event, ensuring that all participants have ample time to prepare for their adventure on foot. Race day begins with registration from 18:00 to 21:00 on Friday evening or Saturday morning until 09:30 when race registration closes. A safety briefing is held at 09:45, followed by the start of the race at 10:00. The cut-off time for completing the course is set for 20:00. Upon finishing, racers are greeted with a pasta dinner and hot drinks to fuel their recovery. All participants receive finisher medals, while top male and female runners earn additional recognition through winner categories. The event includes a comprehensive kit list that emphasizes safety and comfort on the trail. Runners should check weather forecasts beforehand and bring appropriate gear for warmth, dryness, hydration, and nutrition during the race. For those planning to rest at Hawes Market House after finishing, sleeping bags are recommended; however, showers are not available at Race HQ. Entry is limited to 50 participants, ensuring a personal experience with ample support along the way. More information about Ranger Ultras' other trail races can be found on their website: http://rangerultras.co.uk/index.php/pyg-ultra/ Participants have the option to purchase XCover insurance for added peace of mind should unforeseen circumstances prevent them from attending. This event is more than just a race; it's an immersion into Yorkshire’s stunning landscapes and rich heritage.
