About the Event

Experience the thrilling challenge of the Cherry Valley 20k Time Trial, set amidst the picturesque Deer Run Forest Preserve. This race offers a perfect blend of scenic beauty and athletic competition, with two dates to choose from: April 26th and August 30th at 9am.
The course takes you on an out-and-back journey through diverse terrain, starting and finishing within the serene confines of Deer Run Forest Preserve. Begin your ride by heading south for three miles before turning right onto Fairdale Rd./East Line Rd. Covering a total distance of five and a half miles in this direction, riders will encounter marked turnarounds to ensure safe navigation.
Course marshals are stationed at critical points, providing guidance and support throughout the race. The return journey follows the same route back to the start/finish line, creating an engaging experience for all participants.
Competitors can enter into one of several categories: Cat 1-2, Cat 3, or Cat 4-5 for men; Women's categories include Cat 1-2 and 3. Junior racers under 18 are also welcome with their own designated classes to ensure fair competition across all skill levels.
Registration is open until August 29th, 2026, offering various options: pre-registration online at $30 before the deadline, increasing to $35 after and $40 on race day. ABR (American Bicycle Racing) membership is required for participation; annual memberships cost $30 for adults or $15 for juniors, with a one-day pass available for $10.
For those who wish to compete in both races, an additional fee of $10 applies when registering for the second event. Online registration closes on August 29th at Deer Run Forest Preserve's rear picnic area from 8am onwards. Mail-in entries are also accepted by submitting an ABR release form with payment.
Detailed directions lead you to Cherry Valley, situated southeast of Rockford. From major cities like Chicago or Madison, follow Interstate 90 (toll) or I-39 to Highway 20, then navigate through Mill Rd., E State Rd., Walnut St., and Genoa St. Finally, make your way onto River Rd. leading directly to Deer Run Forest Preserve.
On race day, enjoy the convenience of pit toilets at the preserve's parking lot. Race numbers are distributed upon arrival, with clear start/finish lines marked by arrows and turnaround signs. An official countdown ensures a smooth start for each participant, while timing equipment captures your performance accurately.

Cherry Valley is a village of 8.72 square miles (22.6 km2) that lies primarily in Winnebago County, Illinois. Approximately ten percent of the village is within Boone County. The village is within the Rockford, Illinois Metropolitan Statistical Area, and borders the southeast side of Rockford. It is also within the Kishwaukee River valley. The population was 2,905 at the 2020 census, down from 3,162 as of the 2010 census.
