Experience the natural beauty of Torch Lake at the 2026 Ride Around Torch, an annual one-day recreational bicycle tour celebrating its 40th anniversary. This year introduces a Chain-O-Lakes Century route for those seeking an epic adventure. The event spans various distances to suit all abilities: from the scenic 26-mile ride around Elk Lake, which offers stunning views and manageable terrain, to the challenging 104-mile Chain-O-Lakes Century that weaves through the picturesque upper chain of lakes. Whether you opt for the 40 or 63 miles, each route promises well-marked paths, fully stocked food stops staffed by friendly volunteers, and helpful SAG teams ready to assist. Upon completion, enjoy live music in Veteran’s Memorial Park or a delightful catered buffet featuring BBQ pulled pork, all-beef hot dogs, vegan veggie burgers, creamy cole slaw, Italian pasta salad, spinach salad with roasted beets, fresh fruit, black cherry ice cream, and lemonade. For those seeking to cool off, take a refreshing dip in the clear waters of Grand Traverse Bay. Registration fees range from $65 for early registration (February 1 - March 31) to $85 on the day of the event. Children under 12 can participate at reduced rates. Maps and cue sheets are available online via RideWithGPS, with printable versions also provided in PDF format. Hard-copy maps will be included in your packet. The ride commences from Elk Rapids High School (308 Meguzee Point Rd) on July 19, 2026, at 7:00 am. Early registration is encouraged for the $10 discount and limited spots. Packet pick-up is available only between 7:00-10:00 am at the same location. SAG support runs until 3:00 pm on all routes, with a post-ride picnic concluding by 4:00 pm. Helmets are mandatory for all riders, and cyclists must adhere to Michigan traffic laws. Children under 15 must be accompanied by a cycling adult. Parents or guardians must sign a release form for participants aged 17 or younger. The finish line is at Veteran’s Memorial Park in downtown Elk Rapids, where you can enjoy live music and the delightful picnic buffet before taking a leisurely swim back to your starting point. Free camping is available the night before the event, and pre-ride bike tech support will be provided by Bayfront Beach & Bike. For more information or questions, contact [email protected].
