Step into the heart of Wisconsin's Northwoods for an unforgettable cycling adventure. The Great Headwaters Trails Foundation invites you to explore the breathtaking landscapes and charming towns of eastern Vilas County, all while supporting trail enhancement efforts. This year’s race offers a variety of routes suited for every skill level, from leisurely rides through picturesque countryside to more challenging trails led by beer legend Dick Leinenkugel. The event kicks off on Saturday, July 25, 2026, with check-in starting at 6:45 AM. Participants can choose between a scenic road ride or a trail ride that promises an exhilarating experience through the region's natural beauty. For those who enjoy long-distance rides, embark on the 100k (62-mile) Northwoods Road Ride, which departs from Conover Town Park at 7:30 AM. This route weaves its way through scenic roads, offering stunning views of local lakes and woodlands before concluding with a challenging stretch back to your starting point. Alternatively, the 40-mile road ride, departing at 8:30 AM, provides a more manageable distance while still delivering spectacular scenery along County Highway K. Riders will have opportunities for rest stops in Land O'Lakes, where they can enjoy refreshments and take a breather before continuing their journey to Phelps. For a closer connection with nature, join the 20.4-mile trail ride led by Dick Leinenkugel at 9:30 AM. This route follows the Conover-Phelps Trail (C-P Trail), where you'll traverse packed crushed stone paths and enjoy the scenic wetlands before reaching Lakefront Pines Park for a well-deserved break. If shorter rides are your preference, consider the 20-mile road ride or the 10.4-mile trail ride. Both depart at 10:00 AM and 10:30 AM respectively, offering routes that combine scenic views with manageable distances. All participants will start their day in Conover Town Park, where registration is open from June 25 to July 25 for $50 per person or $60 after the deadline. Upon arrival, you'll receive a complimentary event t-shirt and lunch featuring Trig's Smokehouse Brats and Leinenkugel Beer tasting sessions. Post-ride festivities begin at noon with live entertainment and additional activities. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to support trail development while enjoying Wisconsin’s natural beauty. Remember to bring your helmet, as CPSC-approved ones are recommended for safety reasons. The event is rain or shine, ensuring a memorable experience no matter the weather. Conover Town Park will be open from 6:45 AM until the conclusion of festivities at 3 PM on July 25th. Cash and checks are accepted onsite; however, dogs are not permitted during this time due to town ordinances.
