River Ayr Way Ultra & Relay – Celebrate 20 Years of Endurance Excellence Saturday, September 12th, 2026 The River Ayr Way Challenge returns for its 20th anniversary this autumn, offering runners an unforgettable journey through the picturesque landscapes of Ayrshire. This iconic event features both a solo ultra marathon and relay options that showcase some of Scotland's most stunning scenery. ### Ultra Marathon Distance: 40 miles Location: Glenbuck Loch to Riverside Stadium in Ayr The River Ayr Way Ultra is a challenging yet rewarding experience, taking runners through rural paths and quiet roads across the heart of Ayrshire. The course winds along picturesque riverbanks, rolling hills, and tranquil woodlands, offering breathtaking views at every turn. Participants will encounter various terrains throughout their journey: - Mainly Off-Road: Much of the route follows scenic trails that wind through lush countryside. - Tarmac Sections: While predominantly off-road, there are stretches on quiet roads towards the final miles leading into Ayr. Support along the way includes water stations every 5 miles and full checkpoints every 10 miles where runners can enjoy fruit, cold drinks, snacks, and a friendly welcome. Drop bags will be conveyed to each checkpoint as well as directly to the finish line at Riverside Stadium in Ayr. ### Relay Race The relay option allows teams of two or three members to tackle this scenic route together: - Section 1: Glenbuck to Sorn (17 miles) - Section 2: Sorn to Annbank (14 miles) - Section 3: Annbank to Ayr (9 miles) Teams will have a total of ten hours to complete the relay, with each section offering its own unique challenges and landscapes. The event kicks off at Glenbuck Loch on Saturday morning. ### Race Day Logistics Riverside Stadium opens early for pre-race preparations: - Facilities: Designated male and female changing rooms, toilets, and showers. - Transportation: Buses from Riverside Stadium (7:00 AM) and Dean Castle Country Park (7:20 AM), with an additional charge of £8 per person to Glenbuck. Registration takes place at Glenbuck Loch starting at 8:00 AM. Drop bags should be marked clearly with race numbers and appropriate checkpoint details for easy identification during the event. ### Post-Race After crossing the finish line, runners can enjoy showers until 8 PM in Riverside Stadium's facilities.
