About the Event

Immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of history and natural beauty at the Rivers & Rails Marathon, set for November 14, 2026, in historic Brunswick, Maryland. This destination running weekend invites runners to explore a unique blend of scenic landscapes and American heritage.
The full marathon route takes you across both the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers twice each, weaving through Brunswick, Harpers Ferry, and Bolivar, West Virginia. Each step retraces paths steeped in Civil War history and offers glimpses of iconic bridges that link states and stories. The half marathon follows a similar path but stays within Maryland, crossing the Potomac River twice without venturing into West Virginia.
Both marathons are USATF-certified with a seven-hour cutoff time, ensuring runners have ample opportunity to soak in the historic surroundings while tackling challenging terrain. Runners will traverse sections of the C&O Canal Towpath and experience ground where railroads played pivotal roles in shaping America's identity.
For those seeking a shorter yet no less impactful journey, the Veterans Challenge 5K stays entirely within Brunswick, offering a hilly course that honors military veterans with every step taken along challenging terrain.
Whether you’re drawn to the sweeping vistas of rivers and towpaths or the stirring legacy of American history, Rivers & Rails promises an immersive experience unlike any other in this historic region.
