Rodeo Valley Trail Run

Nestled within the breathtaking Marin Headlands, just steps away from historic Fort Cronkhite and Rodeo Beach’s dark sands, awaits an adventure that promises unparalleled scenery and challenging terrain. The Rodeo Valley Trail Run offers runners a diverse range of distances—8K, Half Marathon, 30K, and 50K—to suit all levels of experience and endurance.
The race begins with the iconic backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge peeking through the trees as you start your journey along the SCA Trail. This singletrack path winds its way through coastal trails and Pirates Cove, offering stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. As you continue deeper into the Marin Headlands, steep pitches and lofty downhill sections await, providing both a physical challenge and an opportunity to immerse yourself in nature’s beauty.
The course is part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, home to abundant wildlife such as foxes, coyotes, bobcats, and even the occasional mountain lion. The varied terrain keeps runners engaged with every step, from rolling hills to rocky paths that hug the coastline.
Aid stations along the route are well-stocked with a variety of energy-rich foods and hydration options, including Gu Energy Gels (though not provided at aid stations within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area), trail mix, pretzels, potato chips, Oreo cookies, boiled potatoes, Coke, Ginger Ale, water, Skratch Hydration Mix, PB&J sandwiches, M&M’s, salt tablets, bananas, watermelon, and tangerines. Runners are encouraged to carry at least one 20oz bottle during their run.
Volunteers play a crucial role in the success of this event, helping with setup, check-in, aid stations, course marshaling, timing, and post-race activities. In return for their assistance, volunteers receive a free race T-shirt, complimentary food, and credits toward future Inside Trail Racing events based on hours worked.
Race day features early bib pickup options at San Francisco Running Company in Mill Valley, with the main event starting from Rodeo Beach. Participants can also pick up their bibs on race morning before heading to the start line. Distinct start times are set for each distance: 30K and 50K races begin at 7:00 AM, followed by the Half Marathon at 7:15 AM, and finally the 8K starting at 7:45 AM.
Awards will be given to the top three overall finishers in both male and female categories for each distance. Additionally, age-group medals are awarded down to third place across various divisions. All participants receive custom race medals, while 50K finishers also get a commemorative pint glass. The Dead Last Finisher (DLF) will be recognized with their own special award.
