Nestled at the base of Butterfield Canyon, the Rose Canyon Ultra offers runners an unforgettable adventure through some of Utah's most breathtaking terrain. Scheduled for June 5th, 2027, this race features three challenging distances: a grueling 50-mile route, a demanding yet rewarding 50k, and a scenic 30k course. The event begins at the newly established Butterfield Trailhead Regional Park in Herriman, UT. The park sits right below Kennecott Mine, providing runners with stunning panoramic views from daybreak. Runners will be treated to an array of trail types throughout their journey—from gnarly ridges and steep climbs to smooth single-track trails winding through lush meadows. The 50-mile course is a true test for ultra-runners, featuring over 10,736 feet of elevation gain across diverse terrain. It includes sections like the Butterfield Peak Loop with its breathtaking ridge views and the Yellow Fork Aid station offering miles of downhill dirt road running. The Orange Loop section boasts some of the most scenic vistas on the course, while the Blue Loop provides a final push through incredible single-track trails before heading to the finish line. The 50k route follows similar terrain but is slightly less demanding in terms of distance and elevation gain. It starts with a challenging ascent up steep ridges followed by smooth single track running. Runners will enjoy scenic dirt road sections, stream crossings, and stunning ridge views throughout their journey before heading to the finish line. The 30k course offers an accessible yet rewarding experience for runners looking to explore the beauty of Butterfield Canyon without committing to a full ultra distance. This route includes sweeping canyon vistas, single-track trails weaving through dense foliage, and sections that showcase the area's rugged terrain. Registration options vary with early bird pricing available until January 5th, normal registration until May 4th, and late registration from May 5th up to June 4th at 8:59 pm. Packet pickup is on Friday between 3-6 PM or race day starting at 4:15 AM. The event promises well-stocked aid stations with a variety of essential supplies for runners throughout the course, ensuring they can push their limits while staying hydrated and fueled. Post-race amenities include complimentary breakfast from Great Harvest Bread along with pizza slices and beverages provided every two hours to cater to late finishers still enjoying the trails. Awards will be given out at the end of each distance category, including custom-made medals for all participants and plaques for top male and female overall winners in both 50k and 30k categories. Additionally, Salt Lake Running Company offers gift cards as part of their prize package for first-place finishers. Photography by Xotio Media captures the essence of this race, with bib recognition making it easy to download photos from their website post-event. With free parking available at the event site and a backdrop perfect for photo ops, runners can celebrate their achievements surrounded by friends and fellow competitors. The Rose Canyon Ultra is more than just a race; it's an immersive experience that promises to leave you wanting to return year after year.
