Ruffner Mountain Fall Classic

Experience the beauty and challenge of Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve on November 14, 2026, with the annual Ruffner Mountain Race. Participants can choose from three distances: a scenic 6 Miler, a Half Marathon, or a full marathon course that winds through this stunning natural setting.
The race begins at Irondale Ball Fields in the heart of the preserve and features a well-marked loop route covering 6.4 miles. Each lap offers runners an elevation gain of approximately 1,450 feet for the 6 Miler distance, while Half Marathoners will tackle two loops with a total ascent of nearly 2,900 feet. For those up to the challenge, the full marathon course spans four laps and reaches a cumulative climb of around 5,800 feet.
The terrain includes varied landscapes ranging from rolling hills to winding trails that wind through lush forests and open fields. Runners will enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding countryside as they navigate the challenging yet rewarding route.
Two aid stations are strategically placed along the course to support runners throughout their journey: one at Ruffner Mountain Nature Center, approximately halfway for Half Marathoners (3.5 miles into the race), and another near the start/finish line. These stops provide essential hydration and energy boosts, particularly beneficial for those completing multiple loops.
Registration opens with a limited capacity of 200 runners to ensure an intimate experience and optimal course conditions. Secure your spot by signing up before Wednesday, November 11th at 11:59 PM CT. For guaranteed race shirts, make sure to register by October 1st.
