Rumble on the Ridge invites runners to experience an exhilarating endurance challenge set against the stunning backdrop of Wisconsin’s Driftless Area. This unique event, inspired by the classic Backyard Ultra format, takes place at an old family dairy farm just a 40-minute drive west of Madison. The race unfolds over a challenging loop dubbed "The Drifty Mile," with runners tackling between 1 and 1.25 miles in each lap, featuring significant elevation changes that add to its allure. The route is kept secret until the day itself, ensuring participants are constantly on their toes as they navigate undulating terrain and varying conditions. Every 20 minutes, a cowbell signals the start of a new loop, with competitors needing to complete it within this timeframe or face elimination. What makes Rumble on the Ridge particularly intriguing is that every four hours, the direction of the course reverses, preventing runners from falling into any predictable patterns and keeping them alert throughout. The event continues until only one runner remains who can consistently finish each lap under the 20-minute mark. This lone survivor not only earns bragging rights for a full year but also gains free entry to defend their title in next year’s race along with an exclusive winner's award. With space limited to just 75 participants, Rumble on the Ridge has quickly gained popularity and typically sells out well ahead of time. The event takes place on May 15, 2027, starting at 8:00 AM after a morning check-in period from 6:15 to 7:45 AM. The Barnyard Basecamp serves as the central hub for runners and spectators alike. Here, you’ll find everything needed throughout the weekend – crew tents (with space available upon registration), an aid station stocked with essential supplies like fruit, snacks, hot food, hydration products, soda, and coffee, restrooms, viewing areas, campfires, yard games, and more. For those looking to spend the night nearby, several camping options are within a 20-minute drive of the venue. These include Governor Dodge State Park, Blue Mounds State Park, Tower Hill State Park, Brigham County Park, Trader's Island Campground, Tom’s Campground, Wisconsin Riverside Resort, Deer Valley Lodge, The House on the Rock Resort, Spring Valley Inn, Round Barn Lodge, and The Birdhouse Inn. Additionally, Driftless Endurance supports conservation efforts in the region by donating $0.10 for every lap completed during Rumble on the Ridge to help build the Driftless Trail – a 50-mile loop connecting Tower Hill, Governor Dodge, and Blue Mounds State Parks designed exclusively for hiking, running, snowshoeing, or cross-country skiing. Join us at Rumble on the Ridge for an unforgettable adventure that challenges both body and mind while fostering camaraderie among runners.
