Run and Gun/ Gears and Guns Biathlon Weekend at Flat Rock Ranch

Experience the exhilarating blend of running and shooting at the Flat Rock Ranch Biathlon Weekend, set for September 12th and 13th, 2026. This unique competition offers two thrilling events: The Run and Gun Summer Biathlon and the Gears and Guns Mountain Bike Biathlon. Register now to enjoy a special $10 discount by signing up for both events. Participants must hold an annual US Biathlon license or purchase a one-day license on-site at $20, payable via cash or check only. Both biathlons are sanctioned under USA Biathlon rules and regulations. The Run and Gun Summer Biathlon challenges you to run through diverse landscapes before stopping to shoot from the prone and offhand positions using 5 rounds of 6-inch targets placed at 40 meters. The Mountain Bike Biathlon combines rigorous mountain biking with precision shooting, requiring racers to navigate three loops on their bikes before dismounting for five-shot prone and standing positions. Start your adventure early in the day by practicing at the range from 4 pm to 7 pm on Saturday, September 12th. Registration opens online through BikeReg starting at 4 pm. On Sunday, September 13th, gear up between 7 am and 8 am for a mandatory racers' meeting before the events commence. The Run and Gun Summer Biathlon begins with individual starts every 30 seconds from 8:30 am to ensure fair competition. Similarly, the Gears and Guns Mountain Bike Biathlon follows suit at 10:30 am. Both races conclude on Sunday afternoon, culminating in an awards ceremony around noon. Categories for both events include Men Open (46+), Men Open (45 & under), Women Open, and a Junior category for athletes aged 18 and under if there are four or more participants. Additional categories may be added at the discretion of the race promoter. Safety is paramount in this event. Ensure you have completed the US Biathlon Basic Rifle Safety Course by creating an account on their website and accessing the necessary course materials. On-site Range Safety Officers will conduct assessments during Saturday's practice session and early Sunday morning to ensure all participants are adhering to safety protocols. Racers must adhere strictly to gun handling rules, with rifles pointed in a safe direction at all times. Eye and ear protection is mandatory before touching any firearm. All rifles should be racked on-site; no firearms will be carried during the run or bike segments. Misfires require racers to wait 30 seconds downrange. Mountain biking enthusiasts can receive assistance from other competitors, but external support is prohibited. Any repair tools must accompany the racer throughout the course. The biathlon format includes time trials with penalty laps for missed targets—each misfire adds a lap to your run or bike segment duration.
