This is the eighth year Run for Breast Cancer has taken place in Kansas City, drawing nearly 1000 runners each time. The event supports local breast cancer survivors and families through scholarships and donations to research initiatives, making it an essential part of the community’s calendar.
The course venue offers a mix of paved paths and well-maintained dirt trails within Shawnee Mission Park. Runners start at the park's main entrance and wind their way around the perimeter before heading back towards the finish line. The terrain includes gentle hills that provide a challenging yet manageable route for all paces, from elite athletes to casual joggers.
The race begins promptly at 7:30 AM with Wave A, followed by subsequent waves based on demand. The course layout features notable points such as the park's scenic pond and playground areas, which add to the overall experience. No timing chips are used; instead, participants can track their time using popular apps like Strava or RunKeeper if they choose.
Weather conditions for this December event will be cool with temperatures ranging from -0.2°C to 8.3°C (feels like around 1.2°C), and a moderate wind speed of about 11 km/h, which can make the race feel even colder due to the drying effect on exposed skin.
