Run for Home

About the Event

Run for Home returns to Emily Murphy Park in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on October 18th, bringing together runners and community members alike to support local housing initiatives.
The event takes place at the picturesque Emily Murphy Park, nestled between the bustling downtown area and the tranquil North Saskatchewan River. Race morning sees participants assembling from various directions, with many spotting landmarks like Victoria Park Avenue and Whyte Ave leading them into the park's serene grounds. The atmosphere is filled with a mix of excitement and camaraderie as families, dog owners, and strollers all contribute to an inclusive and welcoming environment.
This year marks the seventh annual Run for Home, having grown significantly from its humble beginnings. In 2018, only 35 participants braved the early October weather; today, over 500 brave souls join in, raising awareness about Edmonton’s affordable housing crisis while contributing directly to The Affordable Housing Sustainability Fund through their participation.
The race offers a variety of distances for all ages and abilities: the thrilling 10km run, the family-friendly 1km walk/run, or the moderate 5km walk/run. Each distance not only challenges participants but also raises vital funds that support Homeward Trust Edmonton’s mission to end homelessness in Edmonton's inner city.
Course venue is a loop through Emily Murphy Park, with its well-maintained trails and paths. The terrain offers gentle undulations, making it suitable for both experienced runners and newcomers. Notable features include the riverbank views and sections lined with native trees that provide shade on race day. At the start/finish line located at 109 Street Running Room, participants will be greeted by cheering volunteers and enjoy post-race snacks, prizes, swag bags, and a bouncy castle for children.
Weather conditions predict an average temperature of around 6°C with humidity levels sitting comfortably at about 66%. The feel-like factor on race morning is expected to hover between 4-5°C. Participants should expect a brisk chill that can make the run feel colder than it actually is, though strong winds averaging 12 km/h may also create some gusts during the event.
