Nestled along Tamarack Way, Birchwood Trails invites runners and walkers for the Run For Palestine Fort McMurray 2026 on September 13. This year marks its fourth edition, celebrating community unity through sport and humanitarian support. The event unfolds in a serene forest setting surrounding Doug Barnes Cabin, providing an idyllic backdrop for participants of all ages. Early morning finds families gathering as young athletes compete in age-specific races while adults enjoy their runs or walks. Birchwood Trails has a rich history dating back to 2009 when Run For Palestine events across Canada began raising funds and awareness for humanitarian relief efforts. The course presents firm, slightly soft terrain, perfect for both runners and walkers. Registration opens at 10:00 AM with race starts scheduled from 11:00 AM onwards. Participants can choose between the 3K run designed for ages 7 to 14 (both age groups) or the 4K run tailored for those aged 15 and above, with a walk category available for all ages. Aid stations are strategically placed along the course, ensuring runners stay hydrated and energized. Weather conditions promise comfortable temperatures between 8.1°C to 19.7°C on race day, accompanied by light winds at approximately 9 km/h and moderate UV index levels around 3.5. Participants must be five years old or older for running and walking categories. First-timers should arrive prepared with their bibs, suitable clothing, and any necessary documents. The event stands as a testament to community spirit, offering an opportunity not only to support humanitarian aid initiatives but also to celebrate local traditions and foster connections within Fort McMurray. Join us on September 13th in this beautiful city for Palestine through the power of running and walking. About Fort McMurray
Learn more about the host city, Fort McMurray.
Fort McMurray is the largest community in the Athabasca Oil Sands in Alberta. It lost its city status in 1995 when it merged with a large rural area to form the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and its fortunes have risen and fallen in lockstep with the price of Alberta crude oil; its structures were decimated by a May 2016 wildfire.
