Run the River Ultra Challenge and Relay

The Run the River Ultra Challenge and Relay returns to Petal, Mississippi on November 7th, offering a unique blend of endurance running, team relay racing, and leisurely walking along the serene Leaf River at Petal River Park.
Participants will gather in Petal’s picturesque Petal River Park for this fourth annual event. The race begins early morning as temperatures start around 50°F with mild humidity levels typical for late autumn in Mississippi. Runners can expect a trail that is firm but slightly soft underfoot, ideal for both seasoned ultrarunners and newcomers to the sport.
Since its inception four years ago, this event has become a cornerstone of Petal’s running community, drawing over 500 participants annually who join forces or compete solo in the scenic park. The Run the River Ultra Challenge supports local charities through registration fees, ensuring that runners are not only challenging themselves physically but also contributing to positive change within their neighborhood.
The course at Petal River Park is a roughly 2.8-mile looped trail that winds through various terrains including wide meadows and single-track paths beneath a hardwood forest canopy. Notable features include scenic riverfront views, tranquil lagoons, wetlands, palmetto fields, and historic train trestles. Runners are encouraged to explore the park at their own pace, whether it's completing multiple loops or enjoying a leisurely walk along the designated Community Walk route.
