About the Event

Join us on October 17, 2026 for the 19th Annual CLT Runway 5K at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Registration opens August 1st and this year's race will see participants running one of America’s busiest airport runways.
Participants must park their vehicles at Charlotte Premium Outlets and board designated buses to reach the secure airfield within the airport complex, where they'll embark on a flat and fast course that winds through active taxiways. The event offers an unforgettable experience as runners witness planes taking off and landing all around them.
The race begins promptly at 7:30 AM with the first bus leaving from Charlotte Premium Outlets at 5:15 AM, ensuring early arrival for those wishing to secure their starting spot on time. All participants must be registered; children aged 12 or under need a registered adult escort.
Limited to just 1600 runners and walkers, this unique event is open to the entire family but requires all individuals over 18 years old to have either a REAL ID or passport for identification purposes.
Proceeds from CLT Runway 5K will support Airport Opportunity Scholarships through Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC), aimed at promoting careers in aviation and economic opportunities within Charlotte’s community, specifically benefiting CMS district high school graduates who are Title I eligible.
Please note that no personal bags are allowed into the event area. Exceptions can be made for diaper bags but these will undergo a security check upon entry to ensure everyone's safety during this exciting race day experience.
The CLT Runway 5K promises an adrenaline-pumping adventure, combining the thrill of running through an active airport with the satisfaction of contributing to local educational initiatives.
