Thanksgiving morning, November 26, 2026, marks the celebration of Rylie's Smile Foundation’s 11th anniversary with its beloved Turkey Escape 5K and 1M events. Participants will run through scenic Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, under a canopy of autumn leaves, making this race not just about speed but also about community spirit. The first 400 registrants will receive a comfortable cotton long-sleeve shirt featuring the iconic Turkey Escape design—limited to those who sign up early. Latecomers may miss out on these special shirts. Pre-race festivities begin with live music by Catch The Drift at Thompson Island Brewing Company's Beer Garden from 4 PM to 7 PM on November 25th, Wednesday. Enjoy a pre-run celebration while savoring local brews and bidding in the silent auction that offers fun items for all ages. Race day starts early with registration and packet pick-up opening at 8 AM. A special 9-and-under Kiddie K event kicks off promptly at 8:45 AM, offering medals and goodies to young participants. The main events, a 5K run and a 1-mile fun run, commence at 9 AM. Awards await top performers with Turkey-themed trophies for the overall winner in each category, as well as gift cards from The Lighthouse in Dewey Beach, Delaware, for masters and largest fundraising groups. Age-specific first, second, and third place medals also ensure a competitive yet inclusive atmosphere. For those who cannot stay until post-race festivities, race winners can claim their Thanksgiving-themed trophies at the Race Result Kiosk before heading home. A Turkey Costume Contest judged by Ernie Lopez and Pete Schwartzkopf promises excitement with top prizes including an apple pie! Post-race refreshments are provided by the Ladies Auxiliary #17 to help runners recover from their efforts. For those 21 years or older, free beer and seltzers await at Thompson Island Brewing Company. Visitors can also explore the Gilstead Drone Works booth for a unique viewing experience of race footage captured in the sky above your group's path. All proceeds benefit Rylie’s Smile Foundation, supporting children battling severe life-long or terminal diagnoses.
