Welcome to the Sawtooth Stage Race, where multi-day mountain biking meets epic challenges on the North Shore of Lake Superior! This inaugural event is organized by the Superior Cycling Association (SCA) and COGGS, offering riders an unforgettable experience with three distinct stages across diverse terrains. The race format caters to both endurance enthusiasts and gravity lovers. Whether you opt for a classic cross-country course or rip through the Gravity Segments like enduro pros, every mile of the SCA's trail network promises thrilling singletrack racing. Compete in one of three categories: - Stage Win: Claim victory based on your fastest time across any given stage. - General Classification (GC): Aim for the top spot with the shortest cumulative race times over all stages. - Gravity Classification: Showcase technical skill through nine timed segments, each testing your ability to navigate challenging terrain. The event spans three days, starting with a short ITT prologue on Friday evening. This 6.8-mile course introduces you to Britton Peak trails and features two gravity segments—Skookum and Flume. Riders can start anytime between 5 pm and 8 pm, followed by awards announced the next morning. Saturday's queen stage, "Jackpot – High Climber," is a 29-mile journey with significant elevation gain. Begin with neutral terrain along Gitchi Gami before ascending to Britton Peak via tarmac climbs. The subsequent singletrack sections demand grit and endurance as you navigate through Jackpot wilderness. Don't miss the remote gravity segments that challenge your off-the-circuit skills. The final stage on Sunday takes place in Grand Marais, featuring a 20-mile circuit with two laps around Pincushion Dirt Circuit. Ascend tarmac, two-track, and goat trails to reach Pincushion before racing back into town. Each lap includes gravity segments for added excitement. Post-race celebrations await at Caribou Highlands on Saturday evening and Voyageur Brewing in downtown Grand Marais on Sunday afternoon. Enjoy food, music, and camaraderie with fellow racers as you reflect on your journey through the North Shore's most scenic trails. Join us this August to test your limits, make new friends, and embrace something truly new!
