As cyclists gather in Traceway Park early on July 11th, the morning light casts long shadows over the green fields and trees, setting the stage for what promises to be an exhilarating day.
This event has been running for several years now, cementing its place as a beloved tradition among local cyclists. With distances of 24 miles, 35 miles, 46 miles, and 62 miles, it caters to all skill levels—offering both seasoned riders and newcomers alike the chance to push their limits within the supportive community atmosphere. The Soul City Cycling - Major Taylor Cycling Club has been at the forefront of promoting cycling in Clinton for many years, making this event not just a race but also a celebration of passion and unity.
The 24-mile route begins its journey through the scenic streets of Clinton, weaving past historic buildings and bustling neighborhoods. Cyclists will traverse well-maintained paths before reaching the first rest stop at Mile Marker 7, where they can replenish with water and snacks provided by the club. The 35-mile course then branches off into more challenging terrain, offering a mix of flat stretches and minor climbs that test endurance while still providing stunning views.
The longer distances—46 miles and 62 miles—are reserved for those who seek an extra challenge. These routes take participants on picturesque paths through the surrounding countryside, with markers clearly laid out to guide riders along their way. Each distance offers its own unique features: from gentle hills that provide a steady climb followed by exhilarating descents in the 46-mile route to the expansive fields and open roads of the 62-mile journey.
Starting at Traceway Park on July 11th, cyclists will find themselves navigating through diverse landscapes. The course layout ensures smooth transitions between flat sections and minor climbs, with aid stations located approximately every ten miles for hydration and nutrition support. Fees range from $45 for Wednesday Hump Day sales through February 26th to a final price of $65 as the registration deadline approaches on July 10th at 7 pm.
On race day, packet pick-up is available both Friday evening (July 10th) and morning before the event. For those traveling from out of town, Traceway Park in Clinton offers convenient pickup times between 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on July 10th or directly at the event location starting from 5:45 am on July 11th.
