The Screaming Pumpkin 2026 through Springdale Cemetery returns to Peoria, Illinois on October 24th this year. Participants will run or walk among the historic tombstones and vibrant autumn foliage of one of Peoria’s most notable cemeteries.
Race morning finds the area cool but comfortable with temperatures hovering around a pleasant average of 15 degrees Celsius, though the humidity at 65% can make it feel slightly more muggy. The course is known for its scenic yet challenging layout that offers both flat and gently hilly sections, ensuring runners experience varied terrain as they traverse from one historical monument to another.
Springdale Cemetery has hosted this event annually since its inception in 2014, making it a beloved tradition among local residents and visitors alike. Over the years, thousands have participated in running or walking distances ranging from two miles up to full marathon relay teams, all while supporting The Yellow Bear Foundation’s mission of spreading awareness about Primary Immunodeficiency (PI). Each year brings new participants eager to join this community-driven event.
The course venue is Springdale Cemetery on October 24th. It begins and ends at the main entrance located at the corner of Park Avenue and Central Street, near downtown Peoria. The terrain includes winding paths through mature trees and manicured lawns, with notable route features such as the old chapel and several historic monuments.
On race day, participants will start from this central location around 7:00 AM. There are no formal aid stations planned, but volunteers provide encouragement throughout the course. Given that the temperature ranges between a minimum of 10 degrees Celsius in the early morning to a maximum of 20 degrees during peak daylight hours, runners should prepare for cool mornings and potential slight warming as the sun climbs higher.
The weather on race day will be generally mild with light breezes from the north at an average speed of around 13 kilometers per hour. Runners may experience some cloud cover but minimal precipitation is expected.
