Experience the vibrant beauty and rich history of Cape Cod during the Second Summer Cycle, an annual event that caters to riders at all skill levels. Spanning four distinct distances—15 miles, 34 miles, 60 miles, and a century ride of 100 miles—the race takes you through eight picturesque towns on this unforgettable journey. The adventure begins and ends at Smugglers Beach in South Yarmouth, where the vibrant atmosphere is complemented by local beer, food trucks, and live music. This beach serves as more than just a starting point; it’s also the perfect place to celebrate your efforts with fellow cyclists after crossing the finish line between 12 PM and 4 PM. For those looking back on past experiences, detailed route maps from previous years are available online for reference. Races kick off at staggered times beginning at 7 AM, ensuring a smooth start for all participants regardless of their chosen distance. Registration fees vary depending on when you sign up: - For the Century Ride (100 miles), prices range from $105 to $150. - The Almost Metric Century (60 miles) costs between $75 and $120. - Riders in the 34-mile route will pay anywhere from $60 to $105, while those opting for a shorter 15-mile ride can register for as little as $50. Safety is paramount. Marshals are stationed at major turns to guide participants safely through the course. Bike shops and SAG vehicles provide support services should you encounter any technical issues or need assistance during your journey. Hydration, nutrition, medical care, and physical therapy stations will be strategically placed every 15 miles along the route. These stops ensure that riders remain comfortable throughout their experience while addressing any health concerns promptly. Proceeds from this event benefit 19 local Cape Cod non-profit organizations, including AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod, Behavioral Health Innovators, Building a Bigger Table, and many others listed on the race website. Riders are encouraged to raise at least $250 each, with beneficiary teams aiming for a minimum of $5,000. The event is hosted by Second Summer Cycle, Inc., a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to supporting local communities through athletic events and fundraising initiatives.
